Hitachi has said it will install a lift capable of reaching speeds of 72km/h (45mph) into a skyscraper in Guangzhou, southern China.
In these parts, a lift is also called an elevator.
According to a BBC report, the elevator will “take 43 seconds to go from the first to 95th floor in the Guangzhou CTF Financial Centre.”
That would make the elevator the fastest in the world, beating the current speed holder – the Taipei 101 building in Taiwan – by about 12km/h (about 7.5 mph.
